  • I have a bridge to replace my two front teeth. One of the porcelain teeth fell off the bridge and my dentist has attempted to repair this a number of times but the repair only lasts between 6 months to a year. Is there a better way of repairing this which I could mention to the dentist? Visitor from Belfast, Ireland UK     (answer)

  • I have teeth missing in the back of my mouth on both sides. I am thinking about getting a bridge put in on each side. Since I have teeth missing in the back, the small gap between my two front teeth has gotten bigger. Is it possible to get the invisalign to lessen the gap? If so, should I get the bridges done first? ...Visitor from IL     (answer)

  • I have advanced gum disease and I lost my 4 top front teeth. It was hard for me due to the pain. The removable bridge is all I can afford due to my coverage. I've made five attempts to get the clips for the bridge to be moved back so it would not be noticable. I am 39 yrs old and so upset that eventually I am going to loose my teeth to gum disease. Is there a way that the clips could not be seen? I have a wide jaw and when I talk or smile it is noticeable (very). I would rather pull them all out not to see the clips. The technician is not hearing my requests. You may call it vanity but I am in the beauty industry. I am crying every time I go to the dentist because I am always let down. Please help. ...Visitor from NY     (answer)

  • I had a car accident and lost/fractured/root canaled 10 top teeth 28 yrs ago. First bridge lasted 17 years until front root fractured and broke. Second bridge lasted 9 years until front porcelein fractured and broke. I'm in process of 3rd bridge. I'm in temp cement for permanent bridge (testing) and the bridge won't stay in for more than a few days. This also happened with the temp bridge. I feel that I can't permanently cement until I know why bridge keeps falling out. I'm also doing bottom bridges this time to fill in missing teeth. Still in temps in bottom. Permanents have not been completed, still in process (more reason for not having cementing the top). Why does the top keep falling out? I've been given a nightguard because of possible grinding (very unlikely in my opinion). I never had this problem with previous bridges and temp cement. Dr. says perhaps something is off but until we have permanent bottoms we may not know what. What should i do? ...Visitor from NJ     (answer)

  • Temporary Bridge: I had a temporary bridge fitted last year with 3 top teeth to fill my missing teeth. I am ready to move onto the next stage now and have investigated permanent impants, but also heard that a permanent bridge might be better. The current temporary bridge is also pushing 2 of my very straight teeth out of shape. I have 2 teeth missing in the same place on each side and one further back. I had 2 children very close together and my teeth didn't ssem to cope with it. ...Visitor from NJ     (answer)

  • Maryland Bridges: My son is 16 years old and has two missing teeth in the front that never came in the ortho put braces on and left the baby teeth on during the 2 years he wore them. When they came off he recommended a two maryland bridges to be glued on each side. So the dentist also recommended this and put two maryland brides on. The problem is every other week or couple of days the one on the left keeps getting loose. He reglues it every time. It lasts a couple of days and a week and back again. It has not even been a year yet and missing school and time to take him back is getting old. The last time we was in he put a brace on the back of the tooth to hold better, it lasted three weeks and now it has fallen out and broken. I am pending an appointment. I am at my last straw please help? It there something else I should have done. We did not put a retainer on him with false teeth because he would have to take it out everytime he ate and with going to high school that would be hard. Should I have done that or is there something else you can recommend to my dentist maybe he is not aware of? Also implants when he is old enough and who do you go see for this? I was told not until 18. I also was told the maryland bridges should last him until 18-21 years old or longer. Do you have any suggestions on why this has not lasted? He has never had one cavity yet. He takes good care of his teeth and they are straight. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ...Visitor from TN     (answer)

  • A fixed bridge (#13-#l5) was done only 2 yrs ago with a crown buildup on l5 before the bridge was cemented. Lots of money. Root canal was done on l5 quite a few years ago along with other perio work. After at least 2 crowns on l5 it was decided to bridge that area would be best. No more missing spaces. I changed to a new dentist as the other would not verify it was loose. My new primary dentist diagnosed it is indeed loose along with a perio specialist and endo specialist. The periodontist says a crown lengthing should have been done. It's been 6 weeks now and I'm going crazy with anxiety. I have not chewed on left side. During October through December I had only left ear blockage and popping sounds in my neck and head. Could all this be related? I'm on my 2nd dose of antiobiotics now. I really thought that the bridge would just have to be recemented. I'm losing all trust in everyone. I cannot aford another one. What happened to standing by ones work? I feel so let down. Any advice? Would the bridge have to come out and not be serviceable? I am also having HMO insurance problems with all this of course. ...Visitor from LA     (answer)

  • Repairing Bridges
I have a bridge on my top front teeth which is only 3 years old. I fell and chipped the front tooth. The Dentist tells me this cannot be repaired but the entire bridge must be replaced at a cost of $11,000. Is there any way to fix this one tooth or can it be cut from the bridge and then replace that one tooth? ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • Sensitivity to Bridge
Ever since I had a tooth extracted and had a bridge placed in my mouth, I have had an excessive amount of saliva on that side. It seems to constantly produce saliva with no relief. The only way I can get it to stop is to wrap chewing gum around the crown. Could I be allergic to the crown material? My dentist says the crown was permanently cemented and I can not have it removed without destroying the two teeth the crown is anchored to. Help me it is causing me to lose my mind, the constant saliva. ...Visitor from WV     (answer)

  • Re-using a Bridge
I have been diagnosed with decay on the rear of tooth #32, which anchors a 3 tooth bridge. My dentist wants to remove the bridge, do a filling or root canal and replace with a new bridge. He says the old bridge cannot be used and a new one will be over $3000. Why can't exisiting bridges be re used??? ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • Bridge, Removable Bridge, Implant as choices
About 10 months ago I had fillings in the roots of the two center lower teeth. Five months later I broke #24 at the jaw bone. It was removed the following month after I had a lot of pain following the root canal. Now the prosthodontist suggests a permanent bridge anchored by three crowns because one lower tooth is weak. He says it is not a good candidate for an implant because the jaw is too narrow. I hate to have three teeth ground down and then possibly lose them after a few years of having them securing the bridge. Is a bridge the only solution?? ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • Bridge Pain - Sensitivity:
Although I felt no pain initially following the installation of a one-tooth bridge(upper right), after eating some almonds, I began to develop sensitivity in the bridge area as well as deep pains in the bottom right teeth.-- now persisiting for 2 months. My dentist can't see a problem (he took x-rays), but he did reduce the occlusion anyway. While the endodonist confirmed sensitivity in the top teeth, he sees no other reason to perform root canals. He prescribed mega doses of ibuprofen to reduce inflammation -- which has helped only slightly. Should I continue with the anti-inflammatories more than 2 weeks or insist that he do root canals on both top anchor teeth? ...Visitor from IL     (answer)

  • Bridgework:
I had a temporary bridge put in about 2 months ago. It was removed about 3 weeks ago so they could take impressions for the permanent bridge. When they put it back on, it didn't seem to fit as well. It seemed either one side or the other was loose. They couldn't get both sides to fit comfortably. I had some pain over the next couple of weeks and the bridge slowly loosened over a period of about a week and finally fell off. When I went back to have it recemented, they still couldn't get the fit quite right. Does the pain I'm experiencing indicate a problem with the temporary bridge? Should the dentist re-do it so it fits better? ...Visitor from MA     (answer)

  • False Teeth or get new Bridge?
My old bridge came out a year ago and my teeth spread out. Am I better off with getting false teeth instead of getting another bridge? ...Visitor from NY     (answer)

  • Bridge causing Malocclusion?
After a bridge replacement (upper right #2-3-4) and two malocclusion adjustments (i.e., grinding), my teeth still hurt. My dentist said that he can do some more adjusting/grinding, and then the next step would be for him to make an expensive appliance. I did not have these problems before I had my bridge replaced and I'm wondering if I should (1) get another bridge from a different dentist, or (2) go with the appliance? Could another bridge just add to the problem since my teeth have been "re-aligned" via all these "adjustments?" I'm 50 years old and I'm afraid to keep grinding on my teeth. ...Visitor from TN     (answer)
