FAQ:  Cerec Restorations

  • Cerec Restorations: I had a Cerec Restoration done about a year and a half ago. It has now worn down so much that the tooth is causing me pain again. I was charged an arm and a leg for this restoration - but the more I read about Cerec the more I think this dentist ripped me off. I did have the restoration done the same day I came in, but the dentist used the gross blue mold and not a camera which seems to be standard Cerec protocol. From what I read the porcelain is supposed to be very strong- is it normal for it to wear down so quickly? And are these restorations ever done without a camera? ... Visitor from NJ     (answer)

  • Cerec Restorations: Are there any situations that can't be done using Cerec? What if you had a tooth made with an impression and needed to replace it - would Cerec work? (I have alot of trouble getting impressions made). Also can you use it for rear molars and expect to have a good result or longevity? ... Visitor from PA     (answer)

  • Cerec Crown: If you have a cerec crown put over a tooth which has a little exposed root, will it always be sensitive to hot and cold? ... Visitor from MA     (answer)

  • Cerec vs gold Restoration - Prep trauma: I want to prevent a possible root canal need after getting a crown on a tooth that is already cold sensitive. Which tooth preparation is less traumatic to a tooth or which restoration (Cerec or Gold) requires less tooth material to be taken off preserving more of the tooth material? Are any laser systems available yet that can prepare a tooth for a crown? ... Visitor from British Columbia Canada     (answer)
