  • Over the counter mouth guard: My dentist has told me I need to get a mouth guard because I clench my teeth. Is there any over the counter mouth guard that would work vs. buying a mouth guard from the dentist that is made for my mouth? ...Visitor from MI     (answer)

  • Jaw Pain and Night Mouth Guard: I have been experiencing jaw pain for about a year. I have always been able to open my jaw, but it is restricted to about two fingers in height. I mostly feel discomfort and pain around my right ear. The problem seems to have started at a similar time to when I started wearing a mouthguard (made specifically for me). Is it possible that the mouth guard is the cause of my problem? It feels like I clench my teeth even more when I wear it. I am terrified of doing even more damage to my teeth if I stop wearing it as I grind them really seriously (to the point where a few have cracked). Is it worth ditching the guard to see if it makes a difference? If so, for how long? ...Visitor from Australia     (answer)

  • Pressure on Teeth: Last summer I had a top tooth pulled. A few months later I began pressing my teeth together (pressure). Now I catch myself doing it all the time. When I wake up my jaw / mouth is so tired from it. Sometimes its my front teeth and sometimes the back. It is getting worse. Do I need a guard of some sort? ...Visitor from WA     (answer)

  • I clench my teeth at night and wear an occlusion mouthguard to protect my teeth. I believe the material it is made from has Bis-Phenol A in the mixture. Is there another material available dentists can use? I am in my child bearing years and do not want any more fetal exposure to this chemical than what already is. ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • I grind my teeth and always have. I have no jaw pain or problem from it. I am trying to get some crowns redone properly and they are not right yet. What is a splint used for and what is a nightguard used for? These devices were mentioned, but I am concerned that my dentist is not able to fix the crowns and is relying on these devices to "fix" me. ...Visitor from CA     (answer)
