  • I am getting braces because I want my teeth to be pushed back. But the orthodontist I went to said she would have to pull 4 of my teeth out, 2 from the top and 2 from the bottom, before she could put my braces in. Is this true? ...Visitor from MD     (answer)

  • I have had my braces on for more than 3 years and I am more than anxious to get them off. When I went to the Orthodontist a week ago he told me my over bite was 3mm. I was wondering what the over bite is suppose to be. And I just got rubber bands too and they gave me the most flexible ones. Are they going to give me larger ones next time? I just want to get some more information so I know when I can expect to get my braces off... thank you so much!! ...Visitor from NY     (answer)

  • My boyfriend has a bad overbite. He can not close his mouth when he sleeps. He has a 10 year old son with the same overbite. If we get married and have children, what are the chances that our children will have this same overbite? Is there any way to prevent this from happening to future children. Also, at what age should a child get dental help for an overbite? ...Visitor from NJ     (answer)

  • How can I whiten my teeth at home even though I have braces? ...Visitor from VT     (answer)

  • My daughter is 14 and her orthodontist recommended full braces with rubber bands to correct her bite. The orthodontist said that she could still keep growing into an underbite, right now her teeth come together - top and bottom. We went ahead with the braces option, but her first appointment to get spacers put in didn't go well at all, and I let her take them out after about 18 hours into them. We had been up all night because she couldn't stand the pain. So I cancelled the braces appointments and plan to get another opinion. Meanwhile we saw a commercial on the television on some type of invisible braces that can actually correct an underbite. So my question to you is . . . Do you have any information on this product? I've tried to find it on the internet, but haven't found anything yet. ...Visitor from MN     (answer)

  • My son, age 11, has been diagnosed with a 3mm overbite. Two orthodontists have seen him. One treatment plan suggests using a twinblock and then braces over the next 2 years. The second plan suggests braces then surgery to the jaw or teeth when he is 18. Furthermore, the second indicated that the first approach (the twinblock) would NOT work. How would you recommend resolving such conflicting approaches? What key questions should I be asking? ...Visitor from MD     (answer)

  • For a little while it has hurt alot to push in on the area just above my chin. Recently it has started to hurt without force, and there is swelling on the inside of my bottom lip, not on the gums though. Also, I just recently got braces off, and I just put the bottom retainers in for the first time in a week or so, and my front bottom teeth are shifting back into place painfully, and they are a little loose. What could be causing this swelling? And could this be the actual cause of my bottom teeth to become loose? ...Visitor from Maine     (answer)

  • How often is a tonsilectomy required for proper orthodontia? If a patient is borderline necessary, can proper mouth dynamics be achieved without the surgery. This patient shows no classic signs of problems..ie. infection, apnea, etc. ...Visitor from PA     (answer)

  • I have a 21 month old daughter with a noticeable underbite. When should I have her seen by an orthodontist and when should treatment begin? Isn't sooner better since her jaw is still maleable? ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • I'm 16 and have had my braces off for about a little over a year. Before i had my braces, my teeth were pretty straight, but my top teeth did not overlap my bottom teeth. They touched at the ends. So after my 2 years with braces, my teeth were perfect. I wore my retainer for the 2 week period fulltime, then at nights only. I forgot to put them in for about 3 weeks, but mainly because the retainers were loose and didn't stay in anyway. Well, my teeth have shifted, or so I think, but maybe it's just my jaw growing. My teeth are still straight, but between where my top teeth and bottom teeth should overlap there's a space now. I'm wondering if getting braces again is the only way to fix this or if clear ones will work too? ....Visitor from PA     (answer)
