  • Veneer teeth hurt when pregnant: I have had veneered teeth over 4 years and it was great, but right now I am 35 weeks pregnant and one of my teeth hurt and is very sensitive. What should I do? I am wonder if it go away after I have the baby? ...Visitor from KY     (answer)

  • Dental Implants while pregnant: I am 25 weeks pregnant, and I also have braces that will need to be removed soon. I was born missing a few adult teeth, though, so the day I get my braces removed, I will also need to get two teeth implanted. I was wondering if that procedure will be safe while I am still pregnant, and what kind of anesthetic they would use, or if they would use laughing gas, or completely put me to sleep? ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • I am 6 weeks pregnant. I have braces on and I was told I may need to have scaling done. I also have a phobia for all dental procedures, so I've mainly been treated with sleep dentistry. I would like to know if there is any type of sleep dentistry procedure I can still use while pregnant, and if I abosolutely need xrays. What can I do? ...Visitor from NJ     (answer)

  • Infection, swelling of gum by new wisdom tooth: The gum area around where my last wisdom tooth is coming in is swollen and infected. I went to my dentist the first day I felt pain. I was told they can't do much for me because I'm pregnant and in my first Trimester. So he prescribed me Tylenol 3 for the pain as well as amoxicillin and a mouthwash called PerioGard (Chlorhexidine Gluconate). Its been 3 days and I can barely open my mouth and can't close it all the way either due to the swelling of my gums. The pain is overwhelming. I can't eat anything requiring chewing and it hurts to move my jaw. Is there anything else I can do to bring the swelling down atleast so I can eat. I'm worried because I'm pregnant. ...Visitor from NC     (answer)

  • Pregnancy and Wisdom Tooth Abcess: I am 27 weeks pregnant and have an abcess in a wisdom tooth. What do I do? I just got off amoxicillin for a abcess in a wisdom tooth. The dentist wants me to go to an oral surgeon. This dentist was rude and would not answer any question I had. Is it safe to have a tooth pulled while pregnant? Also I have had pain on my left side of my jaw near my ear. It is stiff in the morning. All of my doctors think I have a TMJ issue but the dentist says I don't because I can stick 3 fingers in my mouth and it is not locked. ...Visitor from Tenessee     (answer)

  • Oral health and pregnancy: My wife has really poor dental hygiene and many cavities that have not been filled. We are looking to get pregnant in the next 3 months but I think she should get her dental work done before she is pregnant. She thinks dental work will "stir up" greater health problems with bacteria being released, etc. Is it harmful to a fetus and/or pregnant mother to have such poor oral health while pregnant, and should dental work wait until after pregnancy, rather than having it done immediately preceding? ...Visitor from MA     (answer)

  • Bad Teeth and Pregnant: I am writing to you because I am in a bad situation and I am looking for the best answer. I am 25 years old and have very very bad teeth. I had one tooth crowned early in the year and it costs 1,800.00 dollars. Well, every tooth in my mouth will probably need something to that extent. I can not afford that so I was considering having dentures put in. I just want to be able to smile with confidence again. I am currently 16 weeks pregnant and would like to do it before I have the baby if it is possible. Should and could this be done, and if so I am having trouble getting someone to say I should get dentures. Could you make a reccomendation. Any help would be great.. thank you so much ...Visitor from NJ     (answer)

  • Sedation and root canal for nursing mom: I was just told I need a root canal. I am a new mom to a 2 month old and am nursing. What are my options as far as pain medications during the procedure? IS laughing gas as effective for pain than sedation? ...Visitor from MA     (answer)

  • I am due to get extractions done tomorrow. However, I am also now 7 weeks pregnant (my clinic has a very long waiting list). Is there any form of pain relief or sedation that I will be able to use, or will I have to wait until a later time? If I can still have the extractions done while I'm pregnant, what week(s) is/are safe? ...Visitor from MN     (answer)
