FAQ:  Protruding Teeth

  • I am 24 and wearing incognito braces to correct slightly protruding teeth (wanted them moved back only 2mm at most. I wore an Invisalign for about 3 months but I was left with a narrow smile. I changed to incognito to widen my smile. My teeth are now pushed in too far after 8 months of treatment and my dentist said I must not worry because she will change the angle towards the end of treatment (18 months). Does this sound right? I am worried that I will be stuck with them pushed too far in. I don't understand why they must be pushed in so far only to be pushed out again. Is this normal? ..... • I am 30 years old. I had a few problems like bad breath, bleeding while brushing and a little protruding teeth in the front, so I consulted a dentist who advised me to have deep cleaning with scaling and root planing. They also advised me to have flap surgery. I have a doubt that my protruding teeth will go back by this flap surgery.... Visitor from India     (answer)

  • I am 60 years old and feel as if my already protruding top front teeth are sticking out even more. Could my bottom jaw be receding and if so what can I do about it? .... Visitor from UK     (answer)

  • Protruding teeth: Hi. I am 28 years old and I have had this problem since I was very young. My front upper 4 teeth protrude at an angle and are somewhat pointed. However, I can still close my mouth. I don't know if this is a case of overbite, but whatever it is, I really want to get them fixed, even if it is to remove them and have implants. Sometimes they hurt. I met with a dentist once who said my jaws were too big for my teeth and advised that it is too late to have metal braces on. However, I find it rather discomforting whenever I look into the mirror. I have a social problem because of this. What options do I have to correct them and can you suggest any dentist in the UK who can handle this? .... London England United Kingdgom UK     (answer)
