  • Anesthesia and Asthma: I hate going to the dentist and having any work performed. The last few times I went, I had IV sedation. Unfortunately, the dentist kept me under for four hours and I had a series of asthma attacks over the following week. Would the oral pill be better for me?   • Sedation for Children's Cavities: Our 3 year old daughter went to the dentist and it was discovered that she has a good amount of decay on her teeth. Eleven (11) cavities to be exact. Our pediatric dentist suggested that our daughter receive out patient surgery to fill all of the cavities at one time. My wife and I are a little nervous about having our daughter under general anaesthesia with an IV.   • OK to be sedated for Root Canal? I been to the denstist twice for a root canal on the same tooth only because even with the 3 shots of pain killing medicine they gave me I still feel the pain. Now my dentist says he can't perform the root canal and I should go to a specialist.   • Drug Abuse History interferes with Dental Sedation? My daughter is a recovering IV drug user (clean for 2 1/2 years, with no tendencies to start up). She is having 4 wisdom teeth extracted and the oral surgeon's office indicates that they cannot put her to sleep to do this as it would have an adverse effect because of her past drug use.   • Anesthesia and Multiple Sclerosis: My mother has the advanced stages of Multiple Sclerosis. I believe she has an abcess tooth that is causing a temperature, and her one side of her face to be swelled up. I wanted to know if there was a way to pull the tooth, with anesthesia (without knocking her completely out). Also she hates fingers in her mouth ... she will normally bite down, even when we are brushing her teeth. Can you offer any advice to this area of concern.   • Small Mouth: I have a very small mouth. It is hard to keep it open for long periods of time without a significant amount of pain. Would sedation be an option for me? I understand I would have to be evaluated as I take medication for HRT, High blood pressure, GERD, and depression. I have not seen a dentist in over 5 years.   • Needle Phobia: I am going to get my wisdom teeth removed. I was wondering if I get I get the needles in the mouth and laughing gas will I have to have an IV in my arm when I have laughing gas?   • Bad reaction to Epenephrine: I recently had some teeth filled and was told by the dentist that the numbing agent he used contained epenephrine, because epenephrine constricts blood vessels.   • Sedation for Kids: I need some advice for my daughter who is 5 now, and having major difficulties to deal with dental work. Her pediatric dentist recommended to put a few caps for molars, fillings for other areas. But the problem is to get her to sit down on that chair. The doctor recommended that if she doesn't cooperate then I might have to go for sedation techniques.   • Oral Surgery - Anesthetics: I had my wisdom teeth pulled out four years ago, I was given nitrous and ketamine, and during the procedure I kept coming to and I heard the assistant say that my blood pressure was dangerously high. When I woke up, they told me to get it checked, I did since, and the doctor said everything's fine. My question is, if in the future I need oral surgery, what would be an alternative to using these drugs, and which was the drug or was it the combination that might have caused an adverse reaction?   • Sleep apea, Tachardia, Palpitations, irregular heart beats: Recently a piece of my tooth broke off. I went to the dentist yesterday and they discovered that since there was no pain that the tooth was probably dead. I will now have to have a root canal and a crown. I am 58 years old and have never had any kind of anesthesia or novacaine. I have never been put out and I am really terrified and feel panicked already. I have sleep apea, tachardia, palpitations, irregular heart beats. I also take metoprolol and protonix. I don't know what to do. The dentist told me if I don't have it done an abcess will form. Is it true that the dentist has to put them to sleep in order to clean their teeth?
