Composite Resin Shrinkage and Sensitivity

  • Non-Specific Tooth Pain: A few weeks ago, I caught myself bruxing in my sleep. The next day, when drinking coffee, I experienced sharp sensitivity to heat in my lower right teeth. I went to the dentist the next day to have my teeth checked out. So far I have seen five different dentists, including endodontists about the problem. Each examined, took x-rays, tested each tooth, checked for cracks, etc. They could not find the problem in my teeth, even though they understand that I have pain from that area along with lymph node swelling. I was given muscle relaxants and a mouthguard. I was told by the endodontists that they do not recommend performing endo therapy and that I should see a neurologist. What should I do? ...Visitor from OH     (answer)

  • Filling causes sensitivity and pain: I had a composite filling done recently (to replace an old amalgam that had moderate decay). Afterward, my molar was very sensitive to pressure (not heat or cold) and my dentist reshaped the composite as he guessed it was "high." A few days later it is still sensitive to chewing pressure, and now to touch. I experience that small zing or shock when I brush the tooth and when I scrape or poke at it with my fingernail. Does it just need more time to heal, more reshaping, or is something else wrong? ...Visitor from NY     (answer)

  • Sensitivity and veneers: Will the application of veneers such as Lumineer help prevent sensivity in teeth? ...Visitor from NE     (answer)

  • Gum Disease treatment causes extreme tooth sensitivity: After 4-5 years, I finally went to the dentist earlier this year. It was found that I was developing periodontis. I am sure from smoking for 6-7 years. About 3 years ago I experienced severe gum bleeding and pain, but it went away after about a week. When my teeth starting feeling "weak" I finally decided to go to the dentist. They did a deep cleaning and since then I get a pain in my teeth and can't even breathe without the air hurting my teeth. I started using Sensodyne, but I was told that prolonged sensitivity is a sign of something seriously wrong. I am not sure what to do. ...Visitor from FL     (answer)

  • Crowns to fix enamel now cause sensitivity: A year ago I had my top 8 front teeth capped due to the enamel wearing very thin. I then developed extreme sensitivity to hot and cold on the right side of the upper mouth. So.... my dentist did 2 root canals through the caps. Since I now have sensitivity on the left side, I am also grinding my teeth all day. They feel very unnatural in my mouth. I have developed a very dry mouth. The dentist seems to have no answer as to why I have these problems. ...Visitor from FL     (answer)

  • I have had sensitivity problems in #9 for about 1.5 yrs now. My dentist has looked at it and does not see a problem. I am still in pain. Often it hurts (nervy pain) when i'am just hanging out and not eating or drinking anything. I did get an NTI because I clench at night and i was clenching at the time the problem started. My dentist seems to think it will be ok but I am worried that my tooth may be cracked. I did the light test and the light does not pass thru at one particular angle. I am getting obsessed with this, particularly since it's a front tooth. I was told that upper incisors are the hardest to pull and that worries me. ...Visitor from PA     (answer)
