FAQ: Severe Overbite

5 year old with severe overbite: My son is 5 and has a severe overbite on the top due mostly to an underdeveloped lower jaw. His dentist tells me that when his second teeth come in the only way to deal with this is going to be head gear. Is that true? My Lord, it is the 21st century are we still stuck with the painfullness of head gear? Are there any other options I should be looking into? ...Visitor from MA (answer)
Effectiveness of Invisalign: I am 45 years old. I have a severe overbite. My lower front teeth actually touch well into the gums behind my front teeth as the lower teeth have continued to erupt giving my lower jaw a kind of upward hook. I'm wearing Invisalign now to straighten my lower teeth but have not noticed much improvement in the height of my front lower teeth. In fact, when I close my back teeth, there is more of a "bite" into my soft tissue than there was before. Should I expect this problem to get worse and to be variable during the course of my Invisalign treatment or do I have a situation that I need to be more concerned about? ...Visitor from VA (answer)
Lingual braces to fix severe overbite: I have about a 8mm overbite. I have had a brace before but my teeth have moved since my wisdom teeth have came through, causing the bottom and top teeth to move out of line. I do not have diagonal stick out teeth, however... just an alignment problem. Would lingual braces correct this?
