Two weeks ago I had several extractions done. The dentist said that the number 13 "root tip exploded into my sinus". I have seen an Ear Nose and Throat doctor and we are waiting for the results of my CT scan. However my dentist now refers to it as a tooth and the xray does look like a tooth. My question(s) are how can this happen and what are the chances that I won't have to have this removed? ...Visitor from PA (answer)

When I was 28 years old, a dentist pulled my upper left wisdom tooth. He told me looked like 3 teeth had grown together and he had such a tough time pulling this tooth that he was worried about me afterwards. He said I may have sinus problems later because of the size of the tooth and how deep he had to go. I'm 44 now and since he pulled this tooth, I've had nothing but problems. I haven't been to an ear, nose and throat doctor yet but have seen several dentists about this and they can't find anything wrong. My whole right side of my face swells, my eye gets bloodshot and red, I suffer from terrible fatigue when this starts acting up, and the pain is horrible. My question is, do you suggest I now see an ear, nose and throat or another dentist in a specialty field? My upper teeth are very sensitive now and my gums above those teeth swell. This is all in the area that wisdom tooth was removed. I just have never found a dentist who could tell me what to do or if having that wisdom tooth removed is actually what caused all the problems I'm having today. Any help will be deeply appreciated. For quite a while now I have experienced off and on a sharp, throbbing pain in my upper left gum area (sometimes quite bad). It happens after I have chewed particularly hard on this one tooth (4th one back from the front) or if my sinuses are swollen. At first I thought it was a toothache so I asked my dentist. He looked at my xrays and said it was not my tooth, but that my sinsues were unusually close to the nerve. Since then, I had to get root canal surgery on that particular tooth, leading me to think maybe he was wrong, and it was in fact my tooth. However, I still get the pain even after the root canal. I'm not sure I understood what my dentist meant concerning the nerve -if they took the nerve out of my tooth in the root canal, why would I still have pain? ...Visitor from PA (answer)

A week ago I woke with pain in my upper left gums..the next day it increased and by the 3rd day, I went to a doctor who diagnosed it as a
sinus infection. After 5 days on Cipro, I feel the sinus infection is
pretty much gone, but there is a lump on the upper part of gums, near the jaw line that is painful and swollen. Do I see a doctor, do I go to a dentist? Where to turn as this pain keeps me up at night and is just awful....Visitor from NJ (answer)
- Dental Implants - Sinus Lift:
2-3 years ago, I had 3 implants on the upper left side. They were fine for a few months but then began to feel uncomfortable, one in particular. There is an ache, a fuzzy tingling feeling. This has been going on so long and the only thing that relieves it is a couple of glasses of wine. Pain killers don't seem to help. When the dentist removes the crowns and puts on some conical abutments with small temporaries the pain disappears but when the crowns go back the ache comes back. The dentist did a sinus lift when he placed them and I wonder if the problem is to do with that. I have also recently had a bone graft to see if that would help but it is just as bad if not worse. Do you have any advice.. no one here seems to know what to do when things go wrong. How easy is it to remove implants. I am sorry I had them done now as I cannot carry on as normal with this toothache. ....Visitor from Aylesbury Bucks UK (answer)
- Chronic Sinus Problems:
On the upper right side of my mouth I had a tooth extracted, two root canals and a 5 tooth bridge. I have had a chronic sinus clearing problem and no one seems to be able to figure out the cause. Tooth #4 needed the root canal but was a difficult diagnosis. The side of my face hurt before it would rain and when I bit on anything, it felt like I was biting on a rock. The second tooth from the back was extracted. When I wake up in the morning I feel fluid in my cheek above the jaw bone. All xrays and CATscans are normal. Any idea what could be causing this? ....Visitor from NY (answer)
- Loss of Smell and Sinus Problems After a Root Canal:
Six (6) months ago I had a root canal performed on my upper right tooth next to my wisdom tooth. Once the procedure was over the Doctor told me that there was a problem with one of the nerves while performing
the root canal. Well, as a result 1 week later I lost my sense of smell and now I have a problem with Chronic Sinusitus. I have been to two (2) different ENT Specialist and both have told me they could treat the sinuses but I will probably never smell again. I'm wondering if a nerve was damaged or if somehow something happened to my sinus cavity. What kind of a Doctor should I be seeing? ....Visitor from NY (answer)
- Root Canal - Sinus Problems: I had a root canal on my upper left tooth, third from the front,
around a year and a half ago. Since then I have had sinus problems and various colds. I have been experiencing extreme pain along with numbness in the three front teeth. I have taken more than a half a dozen rounds of antibiotics in the last year. This weekend the pain traveled to my cheek bone area and the left side of my nose. My eyes have swollen up along with my face. I am back on antibiotics and sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. What could this be? I am getting very concerned that no one will end this agony of mine. ....Visitor from TX (answer)

- Trust my Dentist? I'm 27 and my upper wisdom teeth have just begun to break through the gum. My dentist recommended having them out - he would do it in his office under local anesthesia. He mentioned that it looks as if the roots have grown slightly into my maxillary sinuses and that this could cause minor complications. He acted as if it were no big deal. I already have some sinus problems as well as severe TMJ compression. Is this really just a minor procedure or should I see someone maybe a little more specialized due to the involvement of my sinuses? What is the risk of having permanent problems in this situation? ....Visitor from NJ (answer)
