  • 25 years Grinding - New Crown Pain: My wife has ground her teeth for 25 years now and recently had her molars and premolars capped with porcelain crowns to prevent further damage and reduce sensitivity to hot and cold. She now experiences shooting pain when biting with these back teeth. She has been back to the same dentist twice to shave or level the capped contact surface but this hasn't helped. She can only chew lightly on one side. Is this normal? Will it become less sensitive? (already 3 months later) Should she replace them with metal caps - crowns? ...Visitor from OR     (answer)

  • Pediatric Bruxism - Infant Noisey Teeth Grinding: I have an 11 month old boy. He has four teeth on top and three on the bottom. He has been grinding his teeth since he was about 9 months old. He is grinding his teeth down. Sometimes he uses so much force, it sounds like he is going to crack his teeth. Is there anything I can do to help him save his teeth? ...Visitor from MI     (answer)

  • Orthodontic Braces for Grinding: I had braces put on to stop my grinding and correct an overbite, I thought they would help. But now my teeth are worse off. My teeth now are pushed in and I get these really bad headaches ever so often. What can I do to fix my teeth, I paid to have a beautiful smile and I don't have one. ...Visitor from FL     (answer)

  • Clenching Jaw at Night: I have had a problem with nighttime jaw clenching for the past 7+ years that seems to be getting worse. I have a great deal of trouble sleeping and, when I do sleep, I never awaken refreshed, but very fatigued as if I hadn't slept at all. I also suffer from frequent headaches and mild jaw pain. When I awaken in the morning, I can tell I have been clenching my jaw because my teeth feel like they've been pressed upon. I had a mouthpiece at one point that didn't really work that well. Whom do I see regarding this issue? A dentist, a medical doctor, an orthodontist? Help! I don't know where to seek the proper help ...Visitor from OR     (answer)

  • Fitting crows to help Bruxism: I have bruxisn which has recently caused problems. I had to have a major repair to a crown and a complicated tooth removal because of the tooth fractures. I went to another dentist because I felt my current dentist was nervous working on me because of the problems I have with bruxism. The new dentist advised me to have 4 perfectly good teeth on the lower front of my mouth crowned as the wear on some of these teeth was not protecting my molars and I was in danger of losing more molars. He explained the porcelain of crowns was tougher than teeth and so would aid the protection of the remaining molars. Now I feel angry having these good teeth crowned. Is this a normal proceedure against bruxism? ...Visitor from Spain     (answer)

  • Night time teeth grinding: At night when I'm sleeping, I grind my teeth and now the top teeth have taken the shape of the bottom. The top kind of cave in. I was wondering how to fix this problem. • Severe Nighttime clenching: When I wake up in the morning, my head, neck, jaw, upper shoulder and siuses hurt and I feel like I am in the clouds. When I first wake up I can feel the pressure in my sinuses just let loose. I wear a dentist made night gard on my upper teeth and it did help for a few years. Before the night gard I was seeing my medical doctor with sinus problems but he could not figure it out. All the symptoms I had prior to the night gard are back. I have a very powerful suction in my mouth while sleeping. I have gone to therapy and wear the night gard every night. Where can I go from here? I can't stand this feeling anymore. ...Visitor from PA     (answer)
