  • I am asking this for my father. He is having a burning sensation of his tongue and has had this for about 4 months now. He has gone to a family doctor and all tests came back negative. Can you tell me what he should do for this and should he go to a dentist? He has dentures on top and bottom but doesn't wear the bottom dentures because of this. Please, can you give me some info.? ...Lynn    (answer)

  • For the past few years, I have noticed that the edges of my tongue are irregular. The color is a brighter red that the more pink top of the tongue - as if it were slightly inflamed. The edges are somewhat ridged with white streaks. The edges are more prone to become irritated. The two dentists who have seen me in the past few years express no real concern with the appearance of my tongue. One described it as a geographic tongue. I have only twenty-four teeth due to orthodonist work and wisdom tooth extraction as a youth. What causes this condition? Is it indicative of a larger health problem or a some habit I have? What might I do to treat the condition? ...James in California     (answer)

  • For a week now, I have had a foul, metallic taste in my mouth, as well as bad breath despite brushing my teeth regularly. Additionally, my mouth and tongue feel hot and burning, and the area under my tongue is sore. What could possibly be causing such discomfort, and can it be treated? I have a dental cleaning scheduled in a month from now, but is that too long of a wait to have this checked? I appreciate your help. ...Dawn in Pennsylvania     (answer)

  • Nine months ago I had a molar tooth exctraction. Now my tongue burns. I have difficulty moving it to the left side. But I've no difficulty while speaking. The doctor says that I've got a geogrophic tongue and gave me B12 vitamins and antibiotic combinations. It's not useful. My tongue is still burning and yellowish-white in colour. What else can I do? ... Selcen in Instanbul, Turkey     (answer)

  • Thank you for being here. I have a question about my tongue. I notice on my tongue that there are small white dots on my tongue. And when I wake up my tongue is not as red and dry. This has been freaking me out and I'm very scared. Dave in California     (answer)

  • For about a week now my tongue has been sore underneath. The top of my tongue has a white milky cover. I have used salt water and listerine to cure, but does not seem to go away. Inside of lips are also sore. Visitor from MN     (answer)

  • For the past few years now I have been getting little white bumps on the sides of my tongue that come and go but last for what seems like forever. When they come and go they never show up in the same spot, they feel like my taste buds have been numbed and burn a little. Most uncomfortable when trying to eat, talk and swollow. I do have problems with breathing at night do to allergies, that's when these bumps show up when I have had to sleep breathing through my mouth all night. I don't get them anywhere else but on the sides of my tongue I don't know what to do about them and I'm worried about it. The last time I had them was a while ago but that was only like for a few days and I believe it was only 1 or 2 at the most. So I didn't really think anything of it then. What should I do or can I do? ... Visitor from MI     (answer)

  • I have suffered with mouth ulcers all my life but in the last few years I have also been getting a little white bump from time to time on the tip of my tongue, almost like a pimple. It is extrememly sore until I pop it. This week I have had the same thing but much more painful. Popping didn't work. I use Kenalog in orabase for the ulcers. A godsend. But unfortunately, it does nothing for the tongue bump. I am in excrutiating pain now or about 4 days. Any tips on what I can do to remedy this or what to take for the pain. I am at my wits end. And Aleve or aspirin does not work. ...Visitor from CA     (answer)
