FAQ:  Transparent Teeth

  • Enamel Loss: Lately, I have noticed that my bottom row of teeth and the top six teeth have clear spots on the tips, causing the rest of my teeth to give off a yellow look. Is this normal to lose a bit of enmael over time? I'm only 20, but I eat a lot of fruit / acid foods. It makes me very insecure and I was jsut wondering if there was anything I could do besides get teeth caps or veneers. ...Visitor from Nova Scotia     (answer)

  • Bottom of front two teeth going slightly transparent: The bottom 2 millimeters of my front teeth have gone slightly transparent. The sides of them (next to the gap) have also gone slightly transparent as well. Lately I've been worried they've been getting worse (more and more transparent). I also have been bulimic for 6 years, which is why I think my teeth turned slightly transparent, but have recently recovered. Is it possible that the transparency is getting worse on it's own even though I take good care of my teeth? Also, are there any treatments/ways to prevent this or get rid of the transparency? ...Visitor from Malaysia     (answer)

  • Whitening yellow - transparent teeth: My teeth are a slight yellow and partially transparent. Is there anything that could make them whiter and healthier? The problem might be because of loss of enamel. There is still definitely some left though. Could you please help me? ...Visitor from MN     (answer)

  • I have enamel loss, and spots in my huge front teeth are growing transparent. I understand what this means, but I have no insurance and when you tell dentists that they hang up on you. How can dentists be so self-serving that they refuse to give you a payment plan? They would have many more customers, and make much more money, because the poor have jobs, just no insurance. This is beyond sad, and I am only 24 and my teeth are acting like they'll be gone by the time I am 35. I am deeply saddened and outraged that no one cares for others anymore. Is there anything I can do that I haven't thought of? ...Visitor from AR     (answer)

  • What causes transparent teeth? Is it something having to do with worn out enamel, or calcium deficiency, or something completely different? And what can be done to treat it? ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • Childrens teeth: My son has slightly transparent teeth with some darkening on the surface near the gum line. He brushes lots, is it a vitamin deficiency? ...Visitor from NE     (answer)

  • Transparent Tooth After Bonding Still Transparent: One of my front teeth had been becoming more transparent than the others. I could see my tongue thru my tooth and I've cried many times. I wanted opaque teeth. I went to my new dentist (he replaced my old dentist) and he suggested bonding. I had the bonding done and he reshaped my teeth. Now my transparent tooth is still transparent and round with a new space that was NEVER there, while my other front tooth has its original shape (square). Can I have my original shape back and the space fixed without veneers? Can I get braces to push my teeth back together? ...Visitor from CT     (answer)
