- Surgery instead of braces? I'm 19 years old and I have an underbite. All of my friends say that I have a beautiful smile but I don't feel that way because of my underbite, which I think is pretty bad. I went to my dentist and he said that I would have to have braces and then have surgery. Since I'm 19 I really
don't want to get braces but I'm fine with having the surgery done to realign my jaw. Is there anyway that I can just get the surgery done without the braces? I know my teeth aren't 100% straight but I really don't want to get braces. ...Visitor from OH (answer)

- I have an idea on how to fix my bite: I have an underbite but my problem is not that my upper teeth protrude in front of my bottom teeth. I have had braces before so my upper and bottom front teeth now meet. My problem is that the angle of my front bottom teeth is slanted outward at like a 45 degree angle (I'm sure its not 45 degrees but you get my point). I was wondering if without surgery I can push back my bottom teeth so that they stand vertically instead of slanted and then bring my bottom jaw forward so that my bottom and upper front teeth meet. I am sure that would get rid of my underbite. I hope I explained it well enough for you. So let me know what you think. ...Visitor from WA (answer)
- Class 3: My daughter is 8 years old and has a class 3 underbite. I have taken her to 2 dentists. Dentist no. 1 said she must go to an orthodontist for braces and dentist no. 2 said we should do nothing till she is 12 when she could have her lower jaw broken and reset by a maxillo-facial surgeon. Dentist no 2 also said that her jaw will go back to how it was after braces have been removed as she is still growing. I would really appreciate your advice. ...Visitor from South Africa (answer)
- Class 3 Bite: I'm 18 years old and I have a class 3 underbite. I have already had braces. I had them for 3 years. I got them off about a year ago. - Can't see top teeth: I am currently going through the braces stage for my under bite. Surgery was an option for me at the start of my treatment but the orthodontist said she could fix my bite with out surgery. I have nearly finished aligning my teeth and I am still unhappy with the result my teeth are sitting behind my top teeth. Now you can not see my top teeth very well because my top jaw is too small. I did go see a maxillofacial surgeon before I started my treatment and he said that he would make my top jaw longer and pull it down so you could see more of my top teeth. My
parents are against the surgery and say it is not nessary because my teeth are in the correct position. I am still very unhappy though. ...Visitor from Australia (answer)
