  • I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled a week ago by a really rude dentist and I don't have any feeling in the bottom of my face where the dentist injected the needle before the surgery. Is this normal? ...Visitor from MI     (answer)

  • I had my wisdom teeth removed about a month ago. I developed the week following, and was treated with antibiotics. The infection has returned, to the same spot. My dentist says that my gums are not healing properly, and put me back on antibiotics. It has been 4 days since I started the antibiotics, but I feel like there is pus coming out. Should I go back to the Dentist? or just watch and see if the antibiotics will remedy the problem? ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • My wisdom teeth are starting to come out. Well, the bottom left one to be exact. The gum area around it is constantly throbbing, and the other day my gums started bleeding (by a different area, I don't know if it was coincidence or caused by the wisdom tooth.) I feel my throat swelling up. I wanted to know if that was normal, or do I have to go see a dentist? ...Visitor from NY     (answer)

  • I am a 21 year old female. My bottom two wisdom teeth are impacted and need an oral surgeon for removal. The top two teeth are being pulled in the middle of January. My question is this: I have been on antibiotics off and on for about a year now. At the present time I am taking amoxil. I am having an unbelievable amount of pain to the point that all I want to do is sit and cry. I have had problems with my wisdom teeth for over a year but the pain has never been this severe. Also the top two teeth have severe decay and have chipped within the last month. Is there something else I could be doing until I have them extracted? Any pain medications I could be taking? ... • All of my wisdom teeth are in and I have slight pain occasionally. My upper right one lost some of the tooth about a year ago and it kinda has a hole in it that I can stick my tongue into. Lately I have had numerous sinus infections, and my right tonsil has gotten an infection. Just curious if that tooth could be a main reason for this, my doctor seems to just shrug it off. ...Visitor from PA     (answer)

  • I have a lower wisdom tooth that is impacted and needs to come out. That I am sure of but my dentist says that one above it needs to come out as well because it will eventually drop since it will have no support once the lower tooth is gone. I have a few questions regarding this. 1. How likely is the upper tooth to drop? 2. How soon after the lower tooth is removed? 3. What problems can I expect if I choose not to have the upper tooth removed? 4. Is there ever a reason not to have the upper tooth removed if there are no other problems with it? Having one removed is more than I care to go through. ...Visitor from OH     (answer)

  • I have tooth decay on the side of my back-top wisdom tooth. It started about 5 years ago when my dentist's clamp slipped and cut a chunk out of my gum. The decay is below the gumline. Now the tooth hurts badly, and the hole in the side and back of it is quite large. Me dentist referred me to another doctor to do an extraction. When a dentist/oral surgeon extracts this tooth, will they also cut away the "pulp" from inside the tooth? Will they sew the tooth socket closed or do they leave it open to heal on it's own? And what are the chances that my teeth will move to fill up the space left from removing this tooth, thus giving me teeth that cannot "mesh" together from top to bottom? ...Visitor from IL     (answer)

  • I am 39 years old and still have my wisdom teeth (impacted). I have not experienced any problems with them beofre, but suspect they may be the root (no pun intended) of my current problems. I have been experiencing headaches recently and they have become more and more frequent. A few weeks ago, my face, just below my eye, became numb. The numbness eventually worked it's way across to the other side of my face, but never went above my eyes to my forehead area. The numbness felt like novacaine when it wears off. I have since had some tingling in my check and mouth areas as well as the headaches. I was naturally concerned about this occurance and visited my Doctor, but we have yet to determine the reason for this occurance. Could this be caused by my impacted wisdom teeth? It has been quite sometime since I have seen x-rays of them, but I believe they are horizontally impacted, but I am not positive about that. Any information or advice you can offer is greatly appreciated. ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • I have both of my upper Wisdom teeth and am 45. A few years ago my dentist did a Panorex to check the status of my Wisdom teeth as they had never shown up on any previous films. They appeared have grown into my sinus area and he refered me to an oral surgeon. This Doctor looked at the films and told me it would cause too much damage to have them removed and said to live with them. I have since sent the info to several other doctors with the same results. I am having problems with very severe sinus infections that take months to clear. My regular doctor feels that the problem may be steming from the teeth and their position. As I have no desire to live on antibotics it would seem that something should be done. Who do I go to? ENT? Another Oral Surgeon? Are there any brave souls out there willing to take this on and why are they so reluctant to preform this procedure? I currently have another sinus infection which they have been trying to treat for a couple of months now. ...Visitor from IL     (answer)

  • I was having severe pain in the left side of my face with swelling. My jaws also were nearly closed forcing me to take liquid food. I went to an ENT and he gave me strong antibiotics and advised me hot fomentation. This aggraveted the pain and swelling. Now I have been to a dentist and he has advised me hot wet compress and antibiotics and pain killers. There was improvement for three days but now the pain and swelling have again started and I cannot open my jaws beyond 1 inch. My jaw X-ray shows 3 impacted wisdom teeth but the region of main problem top left is the area where the wisdom tooth is missing. The doctor says that is due to dry fomentation a growth has occured and the jaw is unable to align, though he has not ruled out any other reason for this growth. Now it is more than 3 weeks and I am desperate. Please help me. Do I need to go in for further procedures, like biopsy of the growth? ...Visitor from Lucknow, U.P., India     (answer)

  • Can a broken wisdom tooth be pulled with a locked jaw from TMJ? ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • I had two lower wisdom teeth removed and one upper. After the swelling went down I noticed I have a indentation on my left side of my face. I asked my Dentist about it, and he said it would have nothing to do with the removal of the tooth. But It happened right after it was removed. It really bothers me, and when I look in the mirror it is all I see, and uneven face. It has now been over two years and my lip is still numb, and my upper teeth have been shifting to the side. Have you ever heard of these problems, and what should I do for it? I have researced jaw implants, and think maybe I should get one on the left side of my face. ...Visitor from CO     (answer)

  • Wisdom Teeth - Underbite? I did not have underbites when I was little, but about 1 to 2 weeks after my wisdom teeth grown, my bottom jaw started to push forward. I was wondering will my jaw push back if I remove my wisdom teeth? I was 16 when my wisdom teeth started to grow, and now I am almost 17. ...Visitor from NY     (answer)
