- Wisdom teeth - cheek swelling: I had my 4 wisdom teeth extracted about a month ago. I am a very thin person, so naturally I always had a thin face. The swelling following the extractions went down to a normal level but never back to where it was before. I have been very depressed because it seems my fuller face is permanent, and my once nice oval shaped head is round. I have restorted to not looking in mirrors anymore. I had it checked for infection but its all healed up fine. I am pretty devastated. Any ideas, suggestions, etc? ...Visitor from GA (answer)
- Delayed treatment causing more problems? Two days ago I had a filling replaced in my lower wisdom tooth. The filling had been missing for about 3 months. My dentist told me the cavity was very deep and if I had any more trouble with the tooth that he would recommend extraction. I have had fillings before and I understand that there is some soreness and sensitivity for a few weeks afterwards, but my tooth and ear has been bothering me all night and all day. I shined a flashlight on it and notice that there is a small amount of pink next to the filling. I swabbed it with a Q-tip and it looks to me to be blood. - Wisdom Teeth Extraction at my Age? Is it standard procedure to remove the wisdom teeth of a 54 year old female, when there is no problem with the actual teeth, ie, fully erupted, no decay, no impaction? It seems so intrusive at my age. ...Visitor from HI (answer)
- Infection, swelling of gum by new wisdom tooth: The gum area around where my last wisdom tooth is coming in is swollen and infected. I went to my dentist the first day I felt pain. I was told they can't do much for me because I'm pregnant and in my first Trimester. So he prescribed me Tylenol 3 for the pain as well as amoxicillin and a mouthwash called PerioGard (Chlorhexidine Gluconate). Its been 3 days and I can barely open my mouth and can't close it all the way either due to the swelling of my gums. The pain is overwhelming. I can't eat anything requiring chewing and it hurts to move my jaw. Is there anything else I can do to bring the swelling down atleast so I can eat. I'm worried because I'm pregnant.

- Difficult Wisdom Tooth Removal: I had my wisdom tooth pulled and I'm afraid it was done rather harshly. My jaw is still sore and I cannot open it. I have cuts on my lips, on the same side the tooth was pulled. My dentist kept yelling at me to open my mouth wider but I had it as wide it can go which then his helper just pried it open which then has given me such a horrible headache. It took about 24 hours for it to stop bleeding because there was never any stitches placed in. I also heard a lot of cracks like 7 or 8 loud cracks and it took about 1 hour to remove it with no breaks for me to relax myself and my jaw. He wants to remove around 3 more teeth but I don't want to go back but I want to know if this is how its done. ...Visitor from WI (answer)
- Wisdom extraction causes sucking sound: A week ago I had my two upper wisdom teeth pulled. One of them has been packed several times for a dry socket, but the pain was not resolved. After the packing material fell out, I now have a sucking - gurgling sound every time I drink, swish with salt water, etc. I was told I might have a small perforation into my sinus cavity. I'm wondering how long that will take to heal up, if I have anything to worry about, and anything else I should know to help with the healing. ...Visitor from MN (answer)
