Question:
Overjet Fix: I am 22 and have had a bad overjet of my front two teeth my whole life.
In my teens I was given braces as well as a twin block plate, as I had jaw alignment problems as well. After using both of these for several years there was no improvement.
I don't wish to repeat braces or the plate but am hoping to get some sort of decent smile, perhaps through cosmetic dentistry. The only problem is I know nothing about it.
I'm not so fussed on my jaw being out of line but I would really like my front two teeth to look normal so that I have a straight smile. At my last appointment the overjet of the the two was pretty severe so I am wondering if anything can be done to fix this? .... Visitor from CA
Answer:
One method, assuming all other oral health requirements are normal, would be to simply replace the front two teeth with implants and crowns.
Although a bridge would work fine, there might be endurance issues and some limitations based on how the teeth are used for biting.
Implants are the only treatment that function like normal teeth and would preserve bone and provide the same dental function as Mother Nature's teeth.
