Question:
Surgery versus Braces: I am 22 years old. My upper teeth is slightly protruding. So I want to correct my protruding teeth.
Last week I consulted one cosmetic dentist who suggested to me to go for cosmetic surgery to enhance my smile. But he told that teeth cant be pushed inside and only smile will be enhanced. But my expectation is teeth should be pushed in and I should comfortably close my mouth.
So please tell me which method is better. Can only braces solve this matter or by surgery I can
correct it within one week. I dont like to wear braces as it will take long time to corrct it. So please whom I have to consult regarding this matter. .... Visitor from Maharastra, India
Answer:
Prior to determining what treatment option you should select, the cause of your condition must be determined.
Is there a periodontal disease present? Is it caused by genetics? Is it a skeletal or dental problem?
You are young. Your teeth have to last you the rest of your life. Sometimes the fastest treatment is not the best in the long term. The time that you spend determining the cause(s) and your treatment options will have a huge pay-back in 40-60 years.
