FAQ:  Flippers

Flipper Alternative

Flippers Ask The Dentist Richard Winter Question:
Shouldn't an upper flipper conform to the roof of the mouth very closely and not be terribly uncomfortable? ... Visitor from WA

Answer:
Flippers are temporary replacements for missing teeth. They are never truly wonderful due to the large amount of acrylic needed to hold on to a few teeth.

That being said, they should be intimate with the palate and comfortable. If yours is uncomfortable show your dentist and ask them to fix it. They shouldn't hurt, cause sore spots or create pain.

They are not specifically designed for eating... but rather for looks or appearance. Usually denture adhesive is needed to hold them in place when needed, and your remaining teeth should be used for chewing.
