Gingivitis Ask The Dentist James Awbrey Question:
Gingivitis and Orthodontics: My son's previous orthodontist became mentally unstable and is no longer practicing.

I went to a new orthodontist who suggested removing all of my son's braces (he's 4 months into phase 2) and getting a proper cleaning (he has gingivitis) and then restarting the braces again because of his dirty teeth.

Does this seem extreme? ...Visitor from IL

    Answer:
    Not at all.

If you child is not keeping his teeth clean and has severe gingivitis, I would recommend the same.

Allowing his new orthodontist to replace the braces with his prescription, in the long run, will improve treatment efficiency and possibly reduce his overall treatment time.
