Question:
Gum Treatment: How necessary is it to have a gum treatment?
The recommended procedure is "perio scale and root planing/qud and antibiotic". Most pocket readings are about 3 with a few at 4.
My dentist claims this needs to be done every 4 months. Another dentist I go to claims I don't need any gum treatment at all.
So I have two recommendations, which one is correct? The procedure is expensive. My gums are healthy, not red or swollen. My teeth are in good health. ...Visitor from CA
Answer:
I would probably see another dentist to evaluate your condition.
I think that the dentist who is doing the scaling and root planing and antibiotic may be overtreating. Then, again, the other dentist may be underdiagnosing.
An independent opinion would tell you which dentist to continue seeing.
