Question:
Advanced Periodontitis treatment with mini implants? I have advanced periodontal gum disease and need my upper teeth removed.
I'm considering mini implants because of cost and am wondering if bone will grow around the mini implants like it would with regular implants?
In the future would regular implants be an option for me or am I stuck with the mini style once I make that choice? I'm only 47 and dentures aren't an option at this point. ...Visitor from WI
Answer:
Mini-implants are approved for long term and continuing use so yes, bone grows around mini-implants.
In fact the 1.8mm - 2.2mm implants and now 2.6 mm mini-implants are the same material as a 3mm implant which is considered a "regular" implant. The difference is in placement technique, not bone growth.
Yes, you can upgrade to regular implants if you desire in the future if you have adequate bone height, width and volume should you decide you wish "fixed teeth" or non-removable teeth.
If you have mini-implants they are usually used for removable denture stabilization. Traditional
implants with greater surface area can be used for bridges or hybrid dentures that remain in your mouth 24/7.
