Question:
My son (age 12) has an uneven gumline; the gum line on one of his upper front teeth is substantially higher than the other. This really bothers him, and it is noticeable.
He has gotten to the point that he won't smile. Is there anything non-surgical that can be done to help minimize this? If surgery is the only option, how extensive is it? ...Visitor from PA
Answer:
I understand your concern. I had the same problem with my daughter after we had done a great deal with Orthodontics for many years.
The only way that I could think of to effectively correct the problem was with a laser. The difference between you and me is that I am a dentist and I could learn how to correct the problem myself. There was no one in the state of Alabama at the time who had the kind of laser I needed to do the work or I would have asked them for the help.
If you go to the following link you will find pictures of work we have done most of the way down the page you will find the pictures of my daughter under the laser dentistry and aesthetics topic.

There may be other things that need to be done but this will work in many many instances. I do not give post operative medication for these surgeries hardly at all and many times we do not even numb the patient. We used a diode laser to do this particular treatment for her.
