Question:
My husband had 2 upper teeth (last 2 teeth on upper left) pulled yesterday and the dentist had to leave it drain cause it was full of puss. Now today he's going through cold sweats, chills and hard to swollow and a headache. I'm starting to worry cause he is never sick and he's sleepy also. Could the puss or infection hit him in his system and what should we do? The dentist gave him pain medicine but nothing else.
Answer:
Your husband has an infection. There are two theories on antibiotic use. One
is that everyone should take antibiotics if they have an abcess. The other is that once the offending tooth is removed a healthy person will overcome the abcess.
With the symptoms he is having I would tend to want to give him an
antibiotic. It will take up to three days for the antibiotic to start
working. Be sure to give him Tylenol to help control the fever.
