Question:
I am a 49 year old female with Lupus. For the last four days I have had pain and swelling on the left side of my face. I have really bad teeth, but none of them hurt. My wisdom teeth never came in and I was wondering if it could still happen at my age.
There is plenty of room for them so should I wait and see? Dentist don't like me very much. Between the Lupus and not being able to get my mouth to numb up (last time 7 shots and all it did was make me throw up) I guess I can't blame them. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ...Visitor from FL
Answer:
I seriously doubt that your wisdom teeth would erupt at age 49. However, if you are having pain, it should be investigated. The question remains regarding the status of your Lupus. Is it limited to skin lesions or is it the more serious variety that affects your entire organ system.
In any event the first step would be to see a dentist and evaluate what is causing the pain before it gets worse. If it means removing an impacted wisdom tooth, then I would recommend you see a good oral surgeon who can handle any complications that could arise as a result of your condition.
