FAQ:  Internal Resorption

Internal Resorption Ask The Prosthodontist Chris McFarland Question:
My daughter has 4 missing teeth. No adult teeth ever came through and we are about to do implants.

The x-rays showed signs of internal resorption and several other teeth may be compromised. My dentist recommends doing the 4 implants and then monitoring her x-rays on a regular basis to watch for any problems.

I just want to make sure that we are doing everything we can for her. Does this sound correct or should we consider any other options? ...Visitor from MS

Answer:
That sounds exactly right to me.

The rate of internal resoption is impossible to gauge and you daughter may retain those teeth for years.

Don't rush to treat, the teeth are rarely painful so you have time to think of the best options as specific treatment needs arise.
