FAQ:  Internal Resorption

Question:
A couple of years ago, during a routine dental check-up, the dentist noticed something wrong with my right upper canine. After an x-ray, he realised that it was internal resorption.

He has never actually seen this outside of a textbook in his 20 odd years as a dentist. I've had a root canal and a temporary filling placed in that tooth, yet it still bleeds, and causes me pain on a regular basis.

I have revisited him, during which he cleaned it out again, yet still it is causing problems. Is there anything in particular my Dentist should be doing to treat this tooth? ... Visitor from Leicester, England, UK

Answer:
You've done all that you can do to save the tooth.

My recommendation is that you have the tooth removed before it causes bone loss and have a dental implant inserted in its place. Then put a crown on the implant.
