Invisible Orthodontics Dentist Directory Find an Invisalign Dentist

Invisalign Dentistry Ask The Dentist Mitchell Pohl Question:
Invisalign and Loose Teeth: Is it common after changing to the next aligner to find that when you remove the aligner to eat, your teeth feel loose? ...Visitor from MA

Answer:
It is normal for your teeth to feel loose during orthodontics especially when your aligners are not being worn.

With conventional wire orthodontics, your teeth are stabilized to a degree by the orthodontic wire but with Invisalign they are only stable with the aligner being worn.

What is happening is that forces placed on your teeth are causing the ligament attaching your teeth to the bone to be stretched. Additionally, those forces are causing a remodeling of the bone around your teeth as they move.

That is why, when your teeth have been moved to their final position, you will have to wear a retainer. The retainer holds the teeth in place until the bone has finished remodeling and the ligaments return to normal.

So in a nut shell, do not be concerned. Looseness is normal.
