Question:
My mother is 67 years old. She has had facial pain for 4 1/2 to 5 years and it continues to worsen. The pain is almost more than she can bear. She has seen many doctors, but none have been able to relieve her pain. Mom has been told that she has TMJ and arthritis in her jaw.
They have prescribed various medicines that have not helped. Mom's dentist told her that he thinks she has a hole in her sinuses because she has drainage that accumulates in her gum, below her jaw. Mom sniffs and snorts to try to get the accumulation out of her jaw. After 2-3 weeks she will get some of it to come out. It is a hard substance. Mom has taken samples to two doctors. One told her that it was an infection and gave her an antibiotic, while the second did not offer an explanation.
Mom's jaw always feels full, even after she has gotten some of the "stuff" out. Can you offer any suggestions as to what this may be. Mom needs some relief, some hope. She does not want to continue living with this pain. ...Visitor from FL
Answer:
Your mom needs to see an oral surgeon and ENT surgeon who can work closely
on her problem. You need a battery of testing to see what is happening. Read the information file that was sent to you via email for more help.
