Question:
Uses of MDI Imtec implants: Are MDI's best used in denture applications or can they be used to hold multiple fixed bridges on the upper arch?
Also, if a patient has occlusal issues, can mini's withstand the pressure if an individual has bite problems? Would you recommend traditional implants for an entire upper arch or a full denture on the upper held in with minis?
I had a full mouth rehab done and the dentist messed up my uppers. They are ready to fall out, so I may end up losing them anyway. I am trying to get info to make best decision. ...Visitor from NY
Answer:
This is a huge question. Sorry your rehabilitation is not working out.
Mini-implants are best, in my opinion, suited for denture stabilization. Some dentists are using these to hold on to bridges and the long term data does not exist for this application yet.
For someone with occlusal problems or biting issues the best support is traditional implant
therapy as there is more surface area for these implants to adhere to the bone and they have long term data to support their use for these applications.
The number of implants required will increase as biting issues increase so the prostheses should be overenginered; more implants to share the load and forces generated during chewing.
