Question:
Bump on tooth: I have been trying to figure this out a long time. Ever since I was little I have had this bump on my front tooth. I want to get it removed. The last dentist who tried to do so didn't know what it was and just caused me a lot of pain.
It is really ugly. I wouldn't be able to get it out for a while, because I have a feeling that it will be expensive, but I would be happy right now just to know what it is so I can start saving up for it. It seems to be a part of the tooth. It is the same color and >everything. ... Visitor from MD
Answer:
Sometimes when the teeth are developing the ameloblasts (the cell forming the hard outside material called enamel) will invaginate upon themselves and form an extra cusp (bump for bitting with). In the front teeth if this is on the inside (towards the roof of the mouth) than it may be called a talon cusp (due to resembling the toe claw of a bird).
Just a bump may be a variation this. It is impossible to determine without seeing you. Possible
fixes may be a procelain veneer to recontour the tooth or a crown. Sometimes these bumps may have pulp tissue associated with it and if this is so than the need for a root canal may be present.
