Question:
Numbness caused by dental implant? Is it possible that an inplant that was completed two years ago could be the cause of numbness I have in my mouth, tongue, gums for the past year and a half? I was diagnosed with perepheral neuropathy (cause unknown) and at first it was thought that the numb mouth was part of the neuropathy.
After a year of taking pridnson my feet/hands etc. are almost normal. MY MOUTH IS TERRIBLE and none of the Doctors who have been treating me have a clue to this problem. I look forward to an answer.
Answer:
I appreciate your inquiry. You asked if an implant could cause numbness of
the lip and tonque. You stated that you were diagnosed with a peripheral
neuropathy and treated with prednisone which eliminated the problem in your
hands and feet.
First, i need to ask, did this numbness start immediately after the implant was placed? It is possible that during the implant surgery the nerve could have been damaged. Another possibility is that perhaps you could have a metal allergy to the implant. I have not heard of this happening, but it could be a posibility.
There are many good doctors in Israel who have examined you and have a better perspective on what is happening. Without a thorough exam and x-rays it would be difficult for me to speculate any further. If you ever visit the states perhaps we could find specialists to evaluate you.
