Question:
Dental shot still causes tingling after 6 months: Approximately 6 months ago, my dentist replaced a mercury filling with a bonded one in my lower left molar (next to last tooth). In the process of numbing the area, he needed to give me 3 shots of novacaine for it to take. I felt a strange feeling in my mouth after the first shot.
Since then, I have had a strange tingling sensation in my upper lip and also have a continuous salty taste in my mouth. I have been to an ENT doctor and he has assured me based on catscans and physical examination that there is no problem with my sinuses.
Is it possible that my dentist could have hit a nerve that could be causing this sensation. If so, is there anything I can do about it? Will it ever heal?
Answer:
It is possible that a nerve was traumatized by the injection. The tingling sensation usually diminishes or goes away completely in 6-12 months. Taking vitamin B Complex daily may help to speed up the healing process.
