Question:
I had braces about 5 years ago. I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth and I lost my top retainer about 3 years ago. My teeth have stayed pretty straight but now I have and open bite?

My back teeth touch but I cannot touch my front teeth together at all. Is is necessary to get braces to fix this or can I just leave it alone and live with it? ...Visitor from PA

Answer:
As long as you're not having joint problems or chewing inefficiency, your decision is really your option. You should, at least, get a few consultations with orthodontists in your area to make up your mind.

The main problem you have to worry about is the fact that your back teeth will wear down faster because they will be doing more work. You may also bite your lip more often.
