Question:
I am 14 and have been to three orthodontists about staightening my 4 frount teeth. My family dentist said that I didn't have to have braces, it was just cosmetic. My mom took me to the orthodontists and all 3 said well they may as well go on and fix every little thing and keep them on for 2+ yrs. Why?
All I want is my eye teeth straightened. A friend mom works in an ortho. Office and she has invisable braces and says hey would work for me in very little time but no Dr. In my area wants to do that. Why do all orthodontists think like this? ...Emily in KY

Emily, as orthodontists, we have to not just look at what is obvious, which in your case, I assume is fixing the four front teeth, but we have to give you a good bite, one that would last you a lifetime. If your teeth are not aligned in both the front and the back, your teeth will slowly breakdown when you get older. This is why, when you visit an orthodontist, we have to tell you what needs to be done in order for your teeth to last you a lifetime. Hope this helps.
