Question:
My 1 1/2 year old daughter has an underbite. What procedure is typically followed to correct these types of bites? How common of a problem is this? ...Jennifer in MI
Answer:
Jennifer, the underbite could be a result of a few things:
1) Could be just from the top teeth being behind the bottom teeth because of how they grew in
2) Could be the lower jaw is growing ahead at a faster rate than the top jaw, or the top jaw not growing fast enough when compared to the lower jaw
3) Could be a combination of 1) and 2).
This is not an uncommon thing, but usually, when your child turns around 7 years old, they would need to go see an orthodontist for an evaluation.
