Video: Orthognathic Surgery Testimonial
Orthognathic Treatment Alternative
Question:
Combining Invisalign with Orthognathic Surgery: I had braces on when I was 14, and I had them on for about 6 1/2 years.
I was going to get maxillofacial surgery in order to correct my class 3 bite. I have had my braces off for about 8 years, and I am now 29.
My teeth have remained VERY straight, and I am now considering moving forward with surgery years later.
Since I do not wish to have metal braces, is there a way for the orthognathic surgery to be done by first having any orthodontic work with Invisalign?
I already saw an orthodontist, and he stated that there would be very little work needed for my teeth done prior to any surgery. Please advise if Invisalign would be possible with surgery ....Visitor from PA
Answer:
If you only need minor corrections in alignment, Invisalign could help.
However, in order to do the orthognathic surgery, you would have to have the wire braces on anyway. The surgeon would probably use the wire braces to help secure your jaws into the desired position once he sections the bone.
Therefore, it does not pay to spend the extra money doing the Invisalign since you will probably have to have wire braces on for the surgery.
