Question:
Correction for prior overbite treatment: I'm 32 years old. When I was 12 I had braces put on. I wore head gear for 2 years to correct my overbite, but I was already finished with my growth spurt.

I was told my only option was to have 2 teeth pulled, pulling my upper teeth back. The skin around my jaw and mouth area is now loose and looks sunken in.

My guess is that the way to correct it would be to get braces again, making a space to have implants put in where my teeth were taken out, and then have jaw surgery. Is that one possible solution? What type of a Dentist would I consult first? ...Visitor from CA

Answer:
You question hinges completely on how you look now. Where the teeth are in relation to your jaw bone, your lips and how much tooth structure you show when you smile.

The profile view could also be very telling. The treatment that is available can vary depending on the severity of your cosmetic and bite problems. You may make choices based on cost or time of treatment or the level of excellence that your are trying to find.

As far as a dentist, you need one that is highly skilled in all areas so he or she could coordinate care if multiple specialists are involved or perhaps the right cosmetic dentist that you choose can make a big impact or improvement without surgery or specialists involved.
