Question:
Braces and Overbite Worry: The dentist said...there's nothing he can do. Is this true?
The problem is, no bottom teeth touch the top. I cannot say "Sssssss". Plus I canot see my bottom teeth at all. I used to see at least one. I've had braces for 5 months. I had a lower middle incissor removed and the gap has nearly closed but my teeth were pulled back and now my lower teeth are off center.
One side is more forward than the other. One side touches more...and all the dentist does is keep filing my teeth down. Is this normal? ...Visitor from MI
Answer:
It certainly sounds like you may require orthognathic surgery to correct your problems.
A problem with lower tooth extraction is that teeth need to be retruded to close the space; accentuating your overbite.
I suggest you find an orthodontist and dentist you are comfortable with and get a second opinion if need be then follow their treatment recommendations as you can afford it. I do wish you the best of luck.
