Question:
Retainers versus Ortho Braces: I'm 21 years old and have a slight overbite.
Could this be corrected with a retainer instead of expensive braces? ...Visitor from NJ
Answer:
Never! Retainers only retain the teeth in each jaw bone in their present positions.
The only way to alleviate an overbite is with braces.
If the overbite is mild to moderate this can be done orthodontically with braces and rubber bands.
If the overbite is moderate to severe this possibly would require orthodontics and surgery to advance the lower jaw because you are a non-growing adult.
