Question:
My tops of bottom teeth in front are touching the bottom of my
upper teeth near the gums. Is this normal? I believe that my teeth are
misaligned, but I'm not sure how serious this is.
If my lower teeth are pushing against my up teeth, pushing them further outward, I feel that over time it will be more and more difficult to chew my food. I'm not really sure how my teeth are supposed to line up. Is there any place to have my bite measured and evaluated for treatment? Is surgery ever an option?
Answer:
I have seen a number of patients that have presented with your condition. However, it would be beyond the scope of this text to try and explain everything especially without any xrays or a clinical exam.
Nonetheless, one problem that can occur is a stripping of the gum tissue from the back of your upper teeth. Inaddition, you could be experiencing a super-eruption of the lower anterior teeth and a lack of good anterior guidance. (see Bite-Occlusion article at my web-site bocaratoncosmeticdentist.com).
In all probability, it sounds like you may need your verticle dimension increased (open your bite) and your anterior guidance restored so that your lower teeth hit on the back of your upper teeth. I suggest you find a good dentist who is qualified in full mouth reconstruction and get a consult.
