Question:
About 14 years ago, when I was 19 years old, I had jaw surgery for my really bad overbite, and had both jaws broken and moved.

But unfortuneatly, the surgery didn't work, because after a year, both of my bottom jaw bones dissolved away from a very rare jaw desease. Now I must have serious reconstructive jaw surgery.

Also, I would need to have my mouth stretched as well, since my mouth is very small for my age.

So the question I wanted to ask is would there be a special kind of surgeon that can do this surgery for me? ...Visitor from Canada

Answer:
Specialists of all types, along with exceptional general dentists develop "interests" during their years of practice that qualify as a "specialty".... but rarely becomes routinely known to consumers.

The best way to get started for finding the surgeon you want who has the experience and working knowledge of treating conditions and outcomes similar to yours would be your local dental schools.

In terms of the unusual disease process you experienced, it might be helpful to simply contact all of the Oral Surgeons and Periodontists in your area who have been involved with diagnostic and/or treatment procedures for rectifying losses that accrued to the disease process.

There are some amazing dental surgeons "out there"..... but they can be hard to find.
