Question:
Permanent Retainers I have had permanent retainers on my top and bottom teeth for about 4 and a half years. My bottom teeth have moved. Is that suppossed to occur? Spaces returned and also the small overbite that I had is gone. When I close my jaw, there is space between my upper and lower teeth. What should I do? I don't want to get another retainer. How will I know that the removable retainer will work if the permanent one did not? ...Visitor from NY
Answer:
Retainers should hold the teeth in the position which there were in when the retainer is made.
If the teeth have moved with a fixed retainer then some of the teeth have debonded from the retainer. When you speak of the teeth not meeting.. is this the front teeth only or is it the back teeth? I would advise that you be seen and evaluated for solving this concern.
