Question:
I recently went to the dentist for a crown. In preparing the tooth for a temporary, I received 6 injections at various points on the left side of my mouth for the purpose of numbing. For the past two weeks, I have been in a great deal of pain (primarily in my jaw and gum - left side).
How do I relieve this pain (I have taken motrin 200 mg every 4 hours)? Do you think I am allergic to novacaine? What should I do? I am afraid of having future dental work done at this point. Visitor from MI
Answer:
No! I think you have compression of your jaw muscles and joints. You most
likely suffer from headaches and TMJ. The anesthetic may also have injured
your muscles or nerves and you have a condition now called trismus. You
should contact a TMJ dentist for help. Don't have any more dental work done at this point. It will make you worse.
