Question:
I have had toothaches for about a year or so, always on the top and half way back. One day one side will hurt, then the next day the other side will hurt. Sometimes I can go a couple of days with no pain. I have been to 2 dentists and found nothing wrong.
I also went to an ENT - he did a complete catscan of my head to look at my sinuses. He then said that my sinuses all look good but gave me some nasalcort nosespray. After 2 weeks I went back and he acted suprised that the nosespray didn't work. He then said we could try to enlarge your sinus openings, but there is no promise of it working.
Couldn't he see from my x-rays that my sinus openings needed opening or not? The toothache is usually accompied with a headach, but that is it. I don't have sinus pressure under my eyes or mucus draing in my mouth, or am I congested. I don't want to have the surgery if it is not going to work. ...Visitor from OH
Answer:
This is a long shot, but you could be suffering from TMJ/TMD syndrome with one or more cracked teeth.
Find a dentist who treats TMJ. Have him make you a splint to remove all biting pressure from your back teeth and see if the pain goes away. Then have him check for cracked teeth by biting on an orangewood stick. X-rays rarely show cracks and you have to perform this actual biting test to find the cracked tooth.
