Question:
Anchored dentures stop gum pain? About 3 years ago I had an upper denture placed. It worked OK for awhile but started to hurt and the bite was off.
I also have diabetes and very bad gum disease on my lower teeth. I have stopped going out with friends because of my "teeth". I will need to have the lower teeth pulled soon because the gums have receded.
My question is, will dentures anchored in place still cause pain to the gum area. I would love to have all implants but it is not financially feasible. Any suggestions? .... Visitor from NY
Answer:
As the bone on your top ridge changes and resorbs (melts away), you will find that the denture will be loose and cause pain. Without dental implants, the bone will continually melt away over the years. Dental implants stimulate and maintain the bone and in those areas that may be deficient, there are various designs and sizes to utillize.
