Question:
I have been fitted with a partial denture/bridge. Is it supposed to feel natural? It feels bulky, takes up too much of my mouth. I can't eat because swallowing is difficult. I'm to the point that it feels so bulky I want to gag and it's so uncomfortable. I want it out .....What should I do? ...Visitor from MD
Answer:
I can not examine you and see what is really going on, but in general:
Partial Dentures usually takes awhile to get use to because it is a new thing. Many times, on a partial, the outside of the partial can be reduced so it does not feel so bulky. The partial should be with in the space of your mouth so it does not feel like it is gagging you.
Sometimes the partial is back too far and starts your gag reflex and that can be “cut” back. Also you have to be honest with yourself and have given this enough time to get use to the partial. I hope that you have returned to your dentist for an adjustment and that you have explained to the dentist exactly what is wrong.
