Partials FAQ Ask The Dentist Richard Winter Question:
Fixing a partial with Crazy Glue: I was at a friends house a few years ago and a fight broke out. I'm stupid and got in the middle and got punched in the teeth.

I broke my 4 front teeth on the top. My dentist tried to save them but after 2 years of trying everything I had them taken out. I wear a partial plate that went into the same holes my teeth came out of.

My problem is the plate broke between the front two teeth and then cracked across breaking the piece off. I have used Crazey Glue to join the two pieces and it seems to be working. My plate is not two years old.

Will this hold for awhile or will I need a new plate? I will get it replaced but for right now I can't afford another $600.00. Will this last for a month or two? ...Visitor from Burlington Newfoundland

Answer:
No it won't last.

First of all super glue works great for cabinets and chess pieces but horribly for something that you chew with 24/7.

Secondly when you lost your upper teeth, your lower teeth supererupted or moved up toward your upper gum. This creates a situation where you are biting on the plastic hard and when it splits between the front teeth it is a sign that spreading forces are pushing the plastic laterally.

Either way you need a new temporary partial, or a metal reinforced temporary partial until you can afford a more permanent replacement. It's better to get it repaired now than wait, because if you break it and it can't be reassembled - a repair won't even be possible- so you will be toothless til you can have another one made.
