Question:
Upper partial causes pain and swelling: My new upper partial has caused pain and swelling to the roof of my mouth where the metal crossbar comes in contact.
Can the partial be adjusted or will my mouth adjust in time? ....Visitor from NY
Answer:
The fact that this is a new partial makes me wonder if you might be allergic to whatever the metal is in the crossbar.
I wonder if you have had a partial before, and what kind of metal it was made of. Most people are not allergic to gold, so this could be an option if it turns out to be an allergy.
You could be tested by an allergist; usually the problem is nickel that causes allergic problems with dental metals.
Or, the bar may be irritating your tissue and could be adjusted by the dentist who made it for you.
