Partials FAQ Ask The Dentist Mitchell Pohl Question:
Valplast extremely tight and causes sore gums: My dentist forced the Valplast partials in my mouth and the pain was excruciating.

She sent me home in this condition. I went back because my mouth was so sore and waited an hour for her to adjust them.

I tried to wear them but the pain became unbearable. Is this suppose to happen? ....Visitor from FL

Answer:
A Valplast partial should not cause that much discomfort.

It is possible that the impression was not accurate and therefore, the prosthesis is not fitting properly. It would be normal to expect some minor adjustments.

However, based upon what you are describing, it seems to be that more than a minor adjustment is required.

Personally, I prefer a more definitive removable partial that is made of metal. A metal framed partial would be stronger and more durable and easier to repair.
